West Coast IPA

More bittering than other recent brews - and I finally got a fridge that'd fit the fermzilla! Went from stove to glass in 6 days on this one.

Mash

The initial layout of the recipe is in Brewfather.

  • 1.5kg can Pale Malt Extract

  • 300g light DME

  • 200g Dextrose

Simple! I'm using up the last of my LME as I have a Brewzilla on its way…

Boil

40 minute boil to get more bitterness out of the Chinook - really wanting some punch from the hops rather than just fruit flavours at the end. Post boil volume of 12L for fermentation

  • 15g Chinook @ 40m

  • 15g Simcoe @ 40m

  • 15g Chinook @ 10m

  • 15g Simcoe @ 10m

  • 30g Columbus hopstand @ 80C for 20m

Fermentation

Pitched on top of the yeast cake of the previous Citra NEXPA - ferment at 20-22C at around 20psi.

Dry hopped with about 30g of Simcoe after 2 days.

Given Kegland's RAPT isn't scheduled for release yet, I went and ordered a $250 fridge off Kogan - perfect fit for the Fermzilla! Still waiting for the inkbird, but in the meantime, does the job!

Kegged half of it in a mini-keg, but have somehow oxygenated the last couple of litres unfortunately!

New fridge day!

Actual cold crash, carbonate in place.
